Luwu Flood, One Victim Died Again Found
JAKARTA - One victim who died from flash floods in North Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi, has been found again. So that it is reported that 36 people have died due to this flash flood.
The female victim was found by a joint team from the North Luwu Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Palopo City BPBD, Basarnas, the Indonesian Red Cross, Tagana, North Luwu Regency, Luwu Damkar Officers assisted from the TNI / Polri elements and residents in Radda Village, District Baebunta, North Luwu Regency.
"The condition of the victims buried in mud and trees and access roads that can only be passed on foot makes the evacuation process quite difficult for the joint team to do," said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data Information and Communication Center Raditya Jati, Saturday, July 18 evening.
Until yesterday, in addition to the 36 dead victims, 67 people were reported missing, 51 injured and treated and 14,483 were displaced in three sub-districts, including Sabbang District, Baebunta District and Masamba District.
"In this case the team focuses on searching for missing victims," he said.
According to estimates, the number of victims could still increase, because there were hundreds of houses covered in mud that were more than 2 meters high. In addition, there are still locations that cannot be accessed.
This condition certainly made it difficult for the team to search for victims who were suspected of being buried in mud or swept away by the current.
The team also deployed several heavy equipment types of excavators to make it easier to find and clear access roads that were cut off due to the accumulation of mud.
