Who Said China Is The Country With The Most Investment In Indonesia?

JAKARTA - Foreign investment is still pouring into the country even though the COVID-19 pandemic has not ended. In fact, from January to June this year, there has been an investment realization of IDR 442.7 trillion.

Of the total investment, China is not the country that injects the most investment in the country. It turns out that it is the neighboring country that has this status, namely Singapore.

The Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia explained that Singapore's total investment in Indonesia was 4.7 billion billion dollars. With this total, Singapore is the country with the most investment in Indonesia.

In the list of the top 10 countries that invest in the country, the second position is occupied by Hong Kong. The realization of state investment reached 2.3 billion US dollars. Followed by China in the next rank with the realization of 1.7 billion US dollars.

"At first there is Singapore with 4.7 billion US dollars, Hong Kong with 2.3 billion US dollars, China 1.7 billion US dollars," he said in a virtual press conference, Friday, September 17.

Furthermore, Bahlil said that what is interesting is that the Netherlands is a European country that is included in the fourth position of the list of the top 10 countries investing in Indonesia.

According to Bahlil, this happened because the Netherlands became a hub in Europe. The total investment from the Netherlands that entered Indonesia reached 1.3 billion in the first half of 2021.

"Europe is now starting to make Indonesia one of the alternative investment destinations that may be included in their priority scale. We reviewed our data through our representative office in Europe that indeed the Netherlands is now a hub when the UK leaves the Euro. The order is in 7th," he said.

While the fifth position is South Korea with investment realization reaching US$1.1 billion. Then followed by Japan which is in sixth position. The total investment invested by Japan is 1 billion US dollars.

Then in seventh position there is the United States with the realization of 800 million US dollars. In the eighth position, there was Malaysia with a realization of US$700 million. Then, in ninth position there is Switzerland with a realization of 500 million US dollars and lastly, Thailand with a realization of 300 million US dollars.

On the occasion, Bahlil emphasized that Indonesia is open to all countries who want to invest in the country. He denied that if it was judged to only provide convenience for certain countries.

"We never want to distinguish which country is a priority. So it is clear that there is an assumption that we only focus on certain countries, there is none. Indonesia should not be regulated by any country. We must be a middle player for all countries to enter by law which is more fair so there is no special treatment," he said.
