West Java Adds 2 Gold From Paddle PON Papua
JAKARTA - The West Java contingent added two gold medals from the 2021 Papua National Sports Week (PON) rowing which took place in Youtefa Bay, Jayapura City, Wednesday.
West Java is currently leading the rowing branch of the Papua PON with four gold medals. The day before, West Java won two gold medals in the men's two 1000-meter kayak and 1000-meter canoe two.
Launching Antara, in Wednesday's race, Andri Agus Mulyana, Indra Hidayat, Chandra Destia, and Erik Saf presented an additional gold from the men's four 500 meter kayak event.
Andri Agus et al. fastest finishing with a record of 1 minute 33.431 seconds, leaving the South Kalimantan team who won silver after recording 1 minute 34.848 seconds, while the host Papua had to settle for bronze after finishing with a time of 1 minute 35.696 seconds.
The second gold for West Java was presented by Nur Meni/Ratih in the women's two 500 meters canoe.
Despite being left behind from Papua and Jambi, Nur/Ratih were able to overtake in the last 200 meters and claim first position by recording a time of 2 minutes 13.943 seconds.
Hosts Papua who had led the pace of the race had to settle for silver (2 minutes 16.953 seconds), while Jambi got bronze (2 minutes 20.093 seconds).
In the second 500 meter kayak event, West Java won bronze. Papua won the gold medal, while the Jakarta team won silver.
West Java also closed today's rowing match with silver in the women's 500-meter kayak number four. The gold medal was won by DKI Jakarta, while the bronze went to the host team Papua.
