JAKARTA - National training athlete Nandira Mauriskha presented the second gold medal for wushu PON XX Papua for the DKI Jakarta team after appearing with the best score in the women's taolu chang quan number at the KONI Futsal GOR, Merauke, Papua, Wednesday.
In the empty-handed category, Nandira got a score of 9.70 from the jury, while newcomer Zoura Nebulani brought himself as runner-up with a score of 9.67 for the West Java team.
Natalie Chriselda Tanasa took home the bronze medal for East Java with a score of 9.65.
Nandira, who missed the 2016 West Java PON due to injury, admitted that she was very satisfied with her opening performance at the second quadrennial sporting event she participated in.
"I'm very satisfied because I can produce the best," said the athlete, who is also a wushu gold medal winner at PON 2012 Riau, as reported by Antara.
"Preparation is quite difficult, we practice every morning and evening, only Sundays are off. The coaches have also worked hard, as have my fellow athletes."
Earlier on the same day, Edgar Xavier Marvelo was entitled to the gold medal in the men's taolu chang quan number after collecting the highest score of 9.72 from the jury so that the two gold medals that were contested on the first day of the wushu branch were wiped out by the DKI Jakarta team.
Wushu is the first sport to be competed in Merauke, which will also host women's soccer, fencing, wrestling, chess, and motorsport matches.
The wushu sport was held from September 29 to October 3 by competing for 23 gold medals from the Taolu (dance arts) and Sanda (matching) events.
