Could There Be A 'Squid Game 2'? This Is Director Hwang Dong Hyuk's Answer

JAKARTA - The Squid Game series is being loved by audiences around the world. In fact, this series ranks first in the most popular shows in the United States.

The work on Squid Game lasted more than a decade, director Hwang Dong-hyuk raised his voice regarding rumors of a sequel to this series.

"Writing (Squid Game) is much more difficult because it's a series, not a movie," Hwang Dong-hyuk was quoted as saying by Variety last week.

“I spent six months writing the first two episodes. Then I consulted my friends verbally and made changes through my pitching and their response."

Apart from that, Hwang Dong-hyuk did not rule out the possibility that later he could continue the Squid Game story.

"I don't have a definite plan for Squid Game 2. Just thinking about it is exhausting," he explained.

However, he believes that if one day he develops the story of the Squid Game, he will not be alone. “If I wanted to make it, I definitely wouldn't do it alone. I'm considering (choosing) experienced writers and directors."

It is known that the script for Squid Game was completed in 2009, but Hwang Dong-hyuk did not realize the story because the plot was too sadistic.

Squid Game tells the story of 456 participants who enter the game to win 45.6 billion won. Their lives were at stake where every time they failed to finish the game, they would be shot. All episodes of Squid Game can be watched via the Netflix streaming service.
