Garin Nugroho Marks 40 Years Of Working With The President's Bicycle Film

JAKARTA - Director Garin Nugroho is entering his 40th year in the film industry. Produced by Radepa Studio, Garin is back with a family film entitled President's Bike.

The title of the film is a phenomenon where bicycles are used as gifts during the President's visit. This gimmick is combined with the story of Papuan children who want to feel the same way - to get a bicycle from the President.

Met at the President's Bicycle Film Thanksgiving event, Garin Nugroho explained that he wanted to present a simple story that exposed the beauty of Papua.

"Hopefully this will be the end of the year, Christmas and New Year's work amidst the scarcity of children's films, especially from Eastern Indonesia," Garin said today, September 28.

Garin also collaborated with Ariel Tatum and Sita Nursanti, who also marked his return to the big screen through the President's Bike. In addition, he also chose a number of new players such as Ian William and Joanita Idol.

"This is a valuable opportunity for me," said Ian William, who is also a native of Papua and made his acting debut through this film.

The three main characters of the President's Bike also come from Sorong and Waisai, namely Arnol Aner Asmuruf, Elias Fortunatus Padwa, and Franken Philipus. The selection of the three was not done through auditions but visited several schools in Papua.

Garin hopes that the film President's Bike can be a revival of cinema in Indonesia. "(Presidential Bike) is pushing to revive visual experiences that are part of our daily lives," he said.

The Presidential Bicycle tells the story of three friends from Papua who want to meet the President. On the other hand, an influencer named Binar (Ariel Tatum) is bored with city life and chooses to vacation in Papua.

A series of events that happened to them made the three friends and Binar begin to interpret the meaning of their lives. Reportedly, the production of the film President's Bicycle will begin in October and is scheduled for release at the end of this year.
