BMKG: 9 Areas In Aceh Potentially Heavy Rain, Beware Of Floods
BANDA ACEH - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) estimates that moderate to high intensity rain has the potential to hit nine districts/cities in the Aceh region. The public is asked to be aware of the potential for flooding.
"The early warning of weather forecasts with the potential for moderate to heavy rainfall in category four will take effect in the next few days," said BMKG Data and Information Coordinator for Class I Meteorological Station Sultan Iskandar Muda Aceh Besar Zakaria Ahmad, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, September 28.
He explained that the rainfall with moderate to high intensity occurred in the districts of Aceh Tamiang, South Aceh, East Aceh, Southwest Aceh, Aceh Singkil, Southeast Aceh, Gayo Lues, Langsa City and Subulussalam.
BMKG asked the public to be alert to potential hydrometeorological disasters, especially to always be aware of impacts such as traffic disturbances, damage to roads and bridges, flooding on roads, electricity and clean water disturbances, damage to river embankments.
"This includes landslides, rock fall, or soil erosion, infectious disease outbreaks, river overflow floods, waterlogging in coastal or lowland areas and other potentials caused by heavy rains," continued Zakaria.
Meanwhile, other regencies/cities in Aceh Province have the potential for sunny, cloudy to moderate and uneven rains, he said.
Previously, the BMKG had also warned that Aceh had entered the rainy season, so the public was asked to be alert to flood disasters triggered by high-intensity rainfall.
Zakaria said the province nicknamed Tanah Rencong had entered the rainy season at the end of September 2021, and would last until the end of January 2022.
"The rainy season starts at the end of September 2021, and will last until the end of January 2022. However, the regions are still different, the beginning of the season is different, and the end of the season or the peak of the season is also different," he said.
