Asking The Government Not To Hastily Set A Time For The 2024 Election, DPR: So That It Doesn't Seem Subjective
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI, Luqman Hakim, asked the government not to rush in deciding the schedule for the 2024 National Simultaneous Election. The reason is that the government must first ask for input from various groups, from experts to political party leaders.
This was said by Luqman in response to the statement of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD who said that the government proposed that the Simultaneous Elections be held on May 15, 2024. The decision was made in an internal meeting of the relevant ministries.
"So that it doesn't seem subjective, we decide the stages and schedule of the election based on the mere calculation of the interests of power," said Luqman, Tuesday, September 28.
The PKB politician explained that there are many stages that the government must pay attention to in determining the schedule for the 2024 Simultaneous Elections. Moreover, said Luqman, in that year there will also be Simultaneous Regional Head Elections.
Therefore, Luqman believes that the government must view that the 2024 General Election is a celebration of the Indonesian people, not just a matter of power struggle.
"Remember, the election must be understood by the people who hold sovereignty over the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. Elections are not the purpose of the government. The government is only a facilitator," said Luqman.
Previously, there was a difference of opinion between the General Election Commission (KPU) and the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian regarding the schedule for the 2024 Simultaneous Elections.
The Minister of Home Affairs proposed that the Pilleg and Presidential Elections or the 2024 General Elections be held in April or May for security reasons. Meanwhile, the KPU proposed February 21, 2024.
