Jambi Withdraws From The Papua 5x5 PON Basketball Due To Fund Difficulties, Perbasi: KONI Is More Understanding This Issue
JAKARTA - PP Perbasi handed over the decision to withdraw Jambi Province from the women's basketball sport 5x5 PON XX Papua to KONI, both regional KONI and Central KONI.
"At PON Papua, we are only technical implementers. Regarding this issue, the Central KONI and the Regional KONI are the ones who understand better," said PP Perbasi Chairperson Danny Kosasih in a written statement received by Antara in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Danny admitted that he did not know the reason why Jambi decided to cancel participating in the Papua PON 5x5 basketball competition.
However, from the information circulating, Jambi is suspected of being absent due to financial difficulties.
This was conveyed by the technical delegate for the 5X5 basketball PON XX Papua, Abdul Rozak, to Antara.
Abdul, who is also the Head of Competition Division of PP Perbasi, said that the coach of the Papua PON women's basketball team had called him and admitted that it was difficult to go to PON because of the cost issue.
The women's 5X5 basketball sport was participated by eight teams which were divided into two groups, namely Pool X and Pool Y.
Pool Y consists of Papua, Jambi, South Sulawesi and Jakarta. However, with Jambi's withdrawal, this group only consisted of three teams.
While Pool X contains Central Java, East Java, West Java and Bali.
The men's and women's 5x5 basketball sports competition will take place starting Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Mimika Sport Complex, Mimika.
