The Perpetrator Against Himself Sentenced To 2 Years, Novel: I Am Not Surprised And This Is Very Ironic
JAKARTA - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan was not surprised by the verdict handed down by the North Jakarta District Court Judges against the two perpetrators of the attack against him.
"I am not surprised and this is of course very ironic because the deviation is so far from the actual fact that it finally gets justification from the judge's decision," Novel said in a written statement to reporters, Thursday, July 16.
Since the process of reading the charges, he had absolutely no interest in participating in the trial process of his two attackers, namely Ronny Bugis and Rahmat Kadir. This is because Novel assessed that the trial had many irregularities which were deliberately designed by certain parties.
"So that there is no hope that I hang in the trial process," he said.
"I believe that this trial seems to have been prepared to fail or a play trial. In fact, since the beginning of the process, I have received information from many sources who say that it will be sentenced to no more than two years and everything has now been confirmed," he added.
This senior investigator is reluctant to say the verdict against Ronny and Rahmat is a victory for criminals and criminals. However, he is worried that this trial is a clear reflection that the state does not side with efforts to eradicate corruption.
He also considered that efforts to urge the disclosure of attacks and terror against other KPK personnel would be increasingly difficult. "Likewise, people who are attacked while fighting to eradicate corruption. Because the only case that goes through the judicial process is that this case is actually closed to reveal other actors and the perpetrators above it," he said.
Previously, the defendant in the case of pouring hard water on KPK investigator Novel Baswedan, Rahmat Kadir Mahulette, was sentenced to two years in prison.

Meanwhile, Ronny Bugis was sentenced to a judge sentenced to 1.5 years in prison. "Trial the defendant has been legally and convincingly proven to cause serious injuries, for one year and six imprisonment. Ordered the defendant to remain detained," he said.
Rahmat Kadir Mahulette and Ronny Bugis were found guilty of violating Article 353 Paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code regarding pre-planned severe maltreatment.
This decision was read by Djumyanto in front of the public prosecutor (JPU) and the legal advisers of the two defendants. Meanwhile, the defendants Rahmat and Ronny were not presented in the courtroom, but heard the verdict via video conference.
After the verdict was read out, the two defendants who heard the verdict from the Kelapa Dua Police Mobile Brigade, Depok, West Java, stated that they accepted the verdict. "Thank you, Your Honor. I accept the verdict," said Rahmat.

This case began when KPK investigator Novel Baswedan returned from the Al Ihsan Mosque, Pegangsaan Dua, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. While walking to his house he was hit with hard water by two people on a motorbike on April 11, 2017.
As a result of this incident, the eyes of the senior investigator who were involved in investigating the alleged mega corruption e-KTP case suffered burns and he finally underwent treatment in Singapore.
After receiving treatment, Novel's left eye could not be saved and his right eye lost 50 percent of the ability to see.
Regarding the attack, President Joko Widodo was urged by various parties, including anti-corruption activists, to form an independent team to uncover the case. However, the government at that time did not budge.
Then on November 24, 2017, the Head of Metro Jaya Police Inspector General Idham Azis released a sketch of the two perpetrators of the Novel attack at the KPK's Red and White House. This sketch is drawn based on the analysis of CCTV footage and testimony of witnesses.
After undergoing treatment in Singapore, July 27 2018, Novel Baswedan returned to work at the KPK and was active again as an investigator at the anti-graft agency.
Continuing in 2019, the joint fact-finding team (TGPF) to attack Novel Baswedan was formed after a recommendation from Komnas HAM. This team consists of 65 people from elements such as the expert team, internal KPK, the police, and human rights activists such as the Chairperson of the Setara Institute Hendardi, former Executive Director of Imparsial Poengky Indarti, and former Komnas HAM Commissioner 2007-2012, Ifdhal Kasim.

Then surprisingly on December 27, 2019, the National Police arrested two suspects Rahmat Kadir Mahulette and Ronny Bugis in Cimanggis, Depok, West Java. The arrest was called the Police after a long investigation and the formation of a joint and technical team.
On March 19, the two defendants were tried at the North Jakarta District Court. Rahmat and Ronny received a defense from the Police Legal Division team to face the trial process.
The two active policemen were charged with serious and planned torture against Novel with a maximum sentence of 12 years. The motive for the two of them was due to their hatred for the KPK investigator for betraying the Bhayangkara Corps.
In their dakwan, both are subject to Article 355 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 of the Criminal Code Subsidiary to Article 353 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code, more specifically Article 351 paragraph (2 ) KUHP in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code.
Furthermore, after undergoing the trial by summoning a number of witnesses, the prosecutor then filed a one-year prison sentence against both of them. The primary article, namely 55 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) 1 of the Criminal Code, is considered by the prosecutor to be invalid because based on the facts in the trial the two defendants accidentally poured hard water on Novel's head.
The two suspects were subsequently charged with Article 353 Paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) 1 of the Criminal Code concerning pre-planned serious assault.
