It's Been Raining Since Saturday In Kampar, But It's Not Because Of That Flood There
JAKARTA - A total of 160 houses in Kampar Regency, Riau Province were flooded. Floods occurred due to rain with high intensity since last Saturday, September 25.
"Flood with a water level of between 50 and 90 cm inundated Suka Ramai Village, Tapung District," said Head of the BNPB Disaster Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in his statement, Monday, September 27.
Based on a report by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Riau Province, flooding was not only caused by heavy rains. However, there are company activities around people's homes that cause a lack of water absorption. In addition, the discharge of rainwater also caused the tributaries of the Suram River to overflow.
"The provincial BPBD has carried out a rapid assessment and coordinated with relevant agencies in evacuation and flood management efforts. The current condition is that around 64 houses are still flooded and the rest are still in areas that have receded," said Abdul Muhari.
Based on the three-day weather forecast issued by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) from 26 to 28 September 2021, the Riau Province area is mostly dominated by foggy weather, sunny cloudy, cloudy and light rain.
Abdul Muhari appealed to the people in Kampar Regency to be aware of the early warning of rain with moderate to heavy intensity which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds on 26 and 28 September 2021.
This is because the inaRISK study shows that Kampar Regency has a moderate to high level of potential flood hazard, which affects 21 sub-districts.
"BNPB urges the public to remain alert to potential hydrometeorological hazards," he concluded.
