They will compete for a quota of 12 gold, silver and bronze medals.

Yenny, who is the daughter of the 4th President of Indonesia Abdurahman Wahid alias Gusdur, said that the XX Papua PON is very special.

There are three main reasons why Yenny called PON XX Papua very special, namely because it took place in the midst of the severe challenges of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

"Although in the midst of tough challenges, Indonesia is determined to continue to carry out PON. We should be grateful for this and at the same time we guard and guard it together through the implementation of strict health protocols," said Yenny, quoted from Antara.

In addition, he said, PON XX Papua is also special because this is the first time the four-year national sporting event has taken place in the easternmost region of Indonesia.

With various limitations, he said, now thousands of people from 33 provinces have come and flooded Papua in four clusters, namely Jayapura City and District, Mimika District and Merauke District.

"All the best athletes from all provinces in Indonesia come to Papua so they can achieve maximum performance," he said.

Yenny welcomed the attention of Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng who reminded all committees and volunteers to provide the best service to all guests who came to his area.

"Do not let the athletes eat late, tired and others," said Yenny reminded.

In particular, Yenny praised the Mimika Regency Rock Climbing Stadium facilities as one of the best in Indonesia today.

The rock climbing branch began to be competed at PON 1996 Jakarta as an exhibition match, then at PON 2000 Surabaya began to be competed independently and then in PON 2004 it was officially competed as a special branch.

Yenny hopes that the host athletes from Papua can also make the best achievements in this XX PON performance.

"There are a lot of world champion athletes who will compete here. They have not only made achievements in Indonesia but have gone worldwide. Last but not least, our athletes won medals in Switzerland. Previously, two of our athletes have broken world records in Salt Lake City, United States. There are also athletes daughter who until now still holds the world championship record," said Yenny.

In the end, Yenny hopes that PON XX Papua can be an inspiration for all Indonesian people to rise from the global COVID-19 pandemic.

"Only with discipline and strong commitment plus solidarity can we overcome this pandemic," he hoped.
