TNI Guarantees Security Ahead Of The Opening Of PON Papua
JAYAPURA - Ahead of the opening ceremony of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) 2021, the Indonesian National Army (TNI) affirmed security guarantees by deploying thousands of TNI soldiers to support the Police in securing all vital objects as well as the opening of this multi-branch sporting event.
The 1701 Jayapura Military District Command (Kodim) said that at least 1,500 joint TNI personnel were ready to secure the implementation of the Papua PON which was carried out both before, during and after the sporting event took place.
"As many as 1,500 troops have occupied venues, accommodations, and vital objects scattered in the districts and cities in Jayapura. We make sure that the venue is safe so far," said Pasi Intel Kodim 1701 Jayapura Mayor. inf. Faisal was reported by Antara, Sunday, September 26.
Faisal further explained, for the overall security of the Papua PON in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, it was given to the Police. However, if the police need assistance from the TNI, they will help. Support is also provided by the central and regional BIN.
"We are protecting objects, not securing activities, the police are the ones who carry out security, but if something happens, the police need it, then we will help," said Feisal.
Security is increasingly being tightened ahead of the arrival of Indonesian President Joko Widodo who will attend the Opening Ceremony of PON XX Papua 2021 on October 2. The Cendrawasih Military Command Unit and the Kostrad Battalion also strengthen the security layer when Person Number 1 of the Republic of Indonesia is present.
According to Feisal, his party together with PB PON have also carried out screening starting from the match equipment, volunteers (volunteers) to the dancers at the opening of the Papua PON later.
The Jayapura Kodim hopes that this step will avoid things that are not desirable during the opening, such as the raising of symbols, logos and certain flags that are prohibited by law.
Meanwhile, to anticipate post-match riots, the Kodim has established PAM Dalam (internal security) and PAM Luar in the Jayapura area.
Then for the liquor moratorium, the Jayapura Kodim deployed Babinsa with the National Police to continue to carry out operations and regular patrols raiding shops and stalls on the streets around the City and District of Jayapura and Keerom which still sell liquor.
Meanwhile, regarding the threat of interference from the Armed Criminal Group (KKB), Faisal confirmed that the gangs had been localized in certain areas, especially in the mountains.
He guaranteed that the Jayapura PON cluster was safe from the disturbances of the separatist group.
