Tuesday Afternoon, Golkar Will Announce Replacement For Azis Syamsuddin

JAKARTA - Three names of Golkar Party cadres have emerged as candidates to replace Azis Syamsuddin in the DPR. Those who might replace Azis at the helm of the legislative body are Ahmad Doli Kurnia, Melchias Marcus Mekeng, and Adies Kadir.

The Head of Legal Affairs for the Golkar DPP, Adies Kadir, stated that the name of the replacement for Azis Syamsuddin to fill the seat of Deputy Speaker of the DPR would be announced on Tuesday, September 28, the day after tomorrow.

According to Adies, the name of the candidate to replace Azis is already in the pockets of the General Chairperson of the Golkar Party, Airlangga Hartarto. "The plan is to announce it on Tuesday afternoon," said Adies, Sunday, September 26.

However, the Secretary of the Golkar Party Faction admitted that he did not know who Airlangga chose to replace Azis. What is clear, he said, has been pocketed by the general chairman. "No one knows, because of the prerogative of the general chairman," he said.

Regarding the discussion with Airlangga, the Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR only said that the chairman often called him to give instructions. "Every time I was called by the ketum to be given instructions," said Adies.

As previously reported, Azis Syamsuddin has sent a letter to the DPP and the General Chair of the Golkar Party to resign from his position as Deputy Speaker of the DPR. But unfortunately, it is not explained when the letter was received.

Azis is the sole suspect in the bribery case. He has been targeted since August 2020. The case began when Azis tried to contact the former KPK investigator, Stepanus Robin Pattuju, to close the case that ensnared Golkar Party politician Aliza Gunado and himself at the KPK.

Robin asked Azis for money to help him close the case at the KPK. To launch the action, Robin is also assisted by Lawyer Maskur Husain. Robin allegedly met Azis many times to receive money. The money is given regularly three times, namely 100 thousand US dollars, 17,600 Singapore dollars, and 140,500 Singapore dollars.

The initial agreement was that Azis had to give Rp4 billion to close the case. Meanwhile, Robin and Maskur are alleged to have received Rp3.1 billion from Azis.
