Vice President Hopes NU Plays A Role In Making National Politics Ethical

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin hopes that Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) can play a role in making national political conditions in Indonesia more ethical.

"National politics is also important as well. So that we hope that in the future our politics will be more in line with the right ethics," said Vice President Ma'ruf while attending the National Conference (Munas) of Alim Ulama and the NU Grand Conference (Konbes) from the vice president's official residence in Jakarta. quoted by Antara, Saturday, September 25.

Referring to a quote from the founder of NU Rais Akbar Hasyim Asy'ari, Ma'ruf said that politics in Indonesia must be imbued with a good religious attitude.

Ma'ruf said Hasyim Asy'ari once considered that politics in Indonesia, in principle, had a weakening of Islamic religious principles.

"Even he (Hasyim Asy'ari) said that at that time (Indonesian politics) was almost dead recently. I don't know whether (Indonesian politics) has strengthened its religious spirit or even died," he added.

Therefore, the Vice President appealed to all Nahdliyin citizens who are in the political arena to show ethics and noble character in their attitude.

"We really need to encourage the religious spirit to be more ethical and have a noble character in our national politics," said Ma'ruf Amin.

The National Conference of Alim Ulama and the NU Konbes were held at the Grand Sahid Hotel Jakarta on Saturday and Sunday, September 26, inviting 250 administrators and members to discuss domestic issues in the fields of health, politics, law and security (polhukam), education and people's welfare.
