World River Day, Banten Deputy Governor Releases Turtles To Cisadane River

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of Banten Andika Hazrumy attended the Commemoration of World River Day held by the Cisadane River Waste Bank or Banksasuci Foundation on the banks of the Cisadane River, Serpong, Tangerang Regency, Banten, Friday, September 24.

In addition to cleaning the river on a boat, the Deputy Governor of Banten also released 6 turtles into the Cisadane River.

"The Cisadane River has great historical value. According to historical records from the 16th century, many small merchant ships entered the Cisadane estuary on the coast of the Java Sea to dock to Tangerang," Andika said as quoted by Antara, Friday, September 24.

The existence of the Cisadane River in Tangerang, said Andika, is very important, because the Cisadane water flow is used as the production of clean water that supplies the Greater Tangerang area. Therefore, he said, it is a shared responsibility to preserve the flow of the Cisadane River.

"As a unified whole ecosystem from upstream to downstream, watershed management (DAS) must be carried out in an integrated and sustainable manner by all relevant stakeholders in accordance with their respective roles," said Andika.

For that, said Andika, the Banten Provincial Government gives high appreciation to all environmental activists who have initiated the World River Day Commemoration this time, as a form of participation in the preservation of the Cisadane River.

"I also hope that today's activity can disseminate information to the public in order to form public awareness about the importance of preserving the Cisadane River flow," he said.

Specifically to Banksasuci Foundation as a partner of local governments in handling environmental conservation issues, Andika asked Banksasuci Foundation to synergize with local governments.

"Especially in the involvement of environmental conservation communities in the issuance of environmental permits as regulated in Government Regulation No. 27 of 2012 concerning Environmental Permits," he said.

World River Day is observed every year on the fourth Sunday in September.

Meanwhile, Director of Banksasuci Foundation Ade Yunus explained that the turtle release and cleaning of the Cisadane River was carried out in commemoration of World River Day 2021.

"We also ask the Deputy Governor to inaugurate this location as the headquarters of Banksasuci volunteers in carrying out their activities to preserve the environment, and the general public may participate here," said Ade.
