Odd Vehicles In Malioboro Area Are Tentatively
YOGYAKARTA - The odd-even policy for vehicles passing through the main tourist area in Yogyakarta, Malioboro, will be applied on weekends tentatively, except for public transportation.
"So the implementation does not refer to a certain time or there is a restriction on odd-even hours. The policy will be applied tentatively," said Yogyakarta City Police Chief, Kombes Purwadi W Anggoro, quoted by Antara, Friday, September 24.
According to him, the odd-even policy for vehicles in the Malioboro area will be implemented when the volume of vehicles on the road increases.
"Once the traffic is heavy, this policy will be enforced. The goal is to filter the number of vehicles that pass on Jalan Malioboro. Especially for Malioboro Street," he said.
Vehicles with even vehicle number plates will be allowed to pass on even dates and odd vehicle number plates will be allowed to pass on odd dates.
However, Kombes Purwadi ensures that this does not apply to public transportation such as TransJogja, which also has an entrance route to Jalan Malioboro. "This policy also does not apply to emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire engines, including local government official vehicles," he said.
He hopes that the implementation of the odd-even policy can slightly reduce the potential for overcrowding in the Malioboro area, especially on weekends.
"Right now, the number of COVID-19 cases in Yogyakarta has gone down. We don't want an increase in COVID-19 cases when activity resumes. Then you have to start again from scratch. It will be even more difficult," he said.
The plan to implement the odd-even policy is also a warning for residents or tourists from outside Yogyakarta not to force their way into Malioboro. "At least we have appealed and tried so that Malioboro is not too crowded," continued the Police Chief.
