Meeting With PBNU Headmaster Gus Yahya, South Sumatra PWNU Urges NU Congress To Be Held At The End Of 2021

SUMSEL - The Executive Board of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU) South Sumatra (Sumsel) urged the holding of the Nahdlatul Ulama Congress no later than the end of 2021.

"The NU congress should be held in December 2021. The implementation has been postponed, so a congress is needed as soon as possible," said South Sumatra PWNU chairman Amiruddin Nahrawi in a written statement, Antara, Jakarta, Friday, September 24.

Amiruddin conveyed this insistence after holding a brief discussion with PBNU's Katib Aam Yahya Cholil Staquf (Gus Yahya) and PBNU Chairman Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) and the Chairman of PWNU Banten, Bunyamin.

According to Amiruddin, if the congress is not held immediately, it is feared that there will be a leadership vacuum within NU. In fact, the organization is very large with various dynamics.

Amiruddin also invited all elements within Nahdlatul Ulama to unite and work together to realize the NU Congress in 2021.

"Alhamdulillah, I met an old friend, Gus Ipul and also Gus Yahya. We discussed how PBNU will be dynamic, innovative, and responsible in the future," he said.

According to the schedule, the 34th NU Congress was supposed to be on 22 to 27 October 2020 in Lampung Province.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nahdlatul Ulama Grand Conference (Konbes NU) in 2020 decided to change the timing of the 34th NU Congress in October 2021.
