Confessing To Be Doing Self-isolation, Azis Syamsuddin Asks KPK To Postpone Examination

JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Azis Syamsuddin, is reportedly unable to fulfill the summons of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Originally, Azis Syamsudiin would be investigated for alleged corruption in Central Lampung.

The news that Azis, who is also a Golkar Party politician, is unable to attend this examination, is stated in his application letter.

The KPK has not responded when confirmed regarding the letter requesting a postponement of the examination by Azis Syamduddin.

In a letter addressed to the KPK leadership through the Director of KPK Investigation Setyo Budiyanto, Azis expressed his wish.

"I hereby intend to submit the request for the postponement of the examination to October 4, 2021, at 10:00 p.m.," said Azis in a letter that was circulated and quoted on Friday, September 24.

Azis asked for this delay because he had just had close contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19. Thus, arguing that he was following the government's recommendation, the Golkar Party politician asked for a postponement of the investigation.

"I'm currently self-isolating (isoman) because some time ago I interacted with someone who tested positive for the Coronavirus," he said.

"I did this to comply with the government's recommendation to do isoman when interacting with people who were tested positive for the Coronavirus and also to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus chain," Azis added.

As previously reported, the KPK is currently investigating allegations of bribery in handling cases in Central Lampung. In this case, Azis' name sticks out because he is mentioned in the indictment of a former KPK investigator who brokered the case of Stepanus Robin Pattuju.

In the indictment, Azis and Aliza are said to have given IDR 3.099 billion and USD 36 thousand. The gift is intended to deal with the bribery case in Central Lampung which is being handled by the KPK.

In addition to this case, the name of this Golkar Party politician is also implicated for his role in introducing Stepanus to the former Kutai Regent Kertanegara Rita Widyasari and the inactive Tanjungbalai Mayor M Syahrial. From that introduction, both of them asked for help from the former police investigator to take care of the case that ensnared them and is being investigated by the KPK.
