AMP Robotics Corp. Creates A Money Recycling Waste Sorting Robot With AI Technology

JAKARTA - AMP Robotics Corp. (“AMP”), a pioneer in artificial intelligence, robotics and infrastructure for the waste and recycling industry, has installed its first AI-guided robotics system in the UK and Ireland with Recyco. The company has a leading recycling and waste management business in Northern Ireland.

The project includes two robots—one Cortex™ AMP unit along with a tandem unit—installed on a Recyco fiber line for quality control to improve pick-up rates and bale (wrap) purity. Recyco is the first contract to close with REP-TEC Advanced Technologies, a recently appointed authorized reseller and integrator of AMP for customers in the UK and Ireland, with several other projects still under negotiation.

“We are excited to bring our first robots to the UK and Ireland as we continue to see strong demand for our AI and automation solutions and establish our channel in Europe,” said Gary Ashburner, general manager of Europe for AMP.

“Recyco has been an excellent partner in this process, and recognizes that our technology addresses the chronic staffing challenges it and many recyclers face, while aligning with its goals of maximizing recovery, increasing landfill diversion, and advancing sustainability.”

AMP's proprietary technology applies computer vision and deep learning to guide high-speed robotics systems to precisely identify, differentiate, and recover recyclables found in waste streams based on color, size, shape, opacity and more. The technology also stores data about each item it perceives.

AMP's sorting technology can pick up more than 80 items per minute, about twice the speed of a human sorter, and the company has logged up to 150 fetches per minute with its tandem units.

The company's AI platform can quickly adapt packaging introduced to the recycling stream with brand-level recognition capabilities that are increasingly critical as demand for high-quality recycled materials continues to grow to meet consumer packaged goods companies' commitments to use post-consumer content. recycling.

"The AMP robot is rapidly doubling our usual picking rate, maintaining and even increasing the purity of our bales, which we rely on to maximize prices with our end-market buyers," said Michael Cunningham, owner and CEO, Recyco.

"We are proud to be at the forefront of AI-powered recycling on these islands, and look forward to continuing to increase productivity and efficiency," added Cunningham.

“It was great to have our first robotics installation launched this month, with the project running so smoothly from start to finish,” said Colm Grimes, founder and CEO of REP-TEC. “We started the installation on Friday night, and by Sunday night, we had both Cortex systems ready for shifts starting the next morning. We were blown away by the accuracy of the AI identification given that this was the first installation of AMP in the UK.”

AMP now has more than 160 systems installed globally, covering North America, Asia and Europe. The company's AI platform, AMP Neuron, includes the largest known real-world data set of recycled materials for machine learning. This machine has the ability to classify more than 100 categories and characteristics of recyclable waste across single stream recycling; electronic memos; and construction and demolition debris. This machine also has an object recognition rate of more than 10 billion items every year.
