Even Though It Is Considered Ineffective, Mahfud MD Is Still Serious About Forming A Corruptor Hunting Team

JAKARTA - The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkop Polhukam) Mahfud MD will continue to form a team to hunt for corruptors, although there have been many criticisms because they think the existence of this team is ineffective.

"I will continue to work on (the corruptor hunting team, red) seriously," Mahfud told reporters at his office, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, July 15.

Mahfud considered this kind of criticism prevalent because Indonesia is a democracy.

On the other hand, Mahfud did not question the statement by the Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nawawi Pomolango who asked him to learn about the ineffectiveness of the previous corruptor hunting team. Because for him, other KPK leaders even supported this team.

"If I read today Pak Firli (KPK Chair) is good, supportive. ... And that is a sign of democracy and what will apply will be the official meeting decision. The nomocracy process, the political process of exchanging opinions, anyone can talk," he said.

Previously, Mahfud said, this team would be revived and filled by a number of parties such as the Attorney General's Office, the Police, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, and the Ministry of Home Affairs. This team will not involve the KPK because it considers the anti-graft agency to be a special institution that has its own main duties and functions in preventing and eradicating corruption.

Mahfud's reason for reviving himself was to pursue the defendant in the Cessie Bank Bali case, who is now a fugitive and unknown to his forest, namely Djoko Tjandra and other fugitives who fled abroad.

The criticism of the formation of this team emerged because at the beginning of its presence it was only able to arrest 4 out of 16 fugitives.
