Real Madrid Will Step On The Gas, Aim For Villarreal As The Next Victim

JAKARTA - Real Madrid will work hard to harvest goals in order to continue to push forward in the early stages of this season. Los Blancos will step on the gas towards the La Liga title race when they host mid-table Villarreal on Saturday this week.

Real have so far collected 16 points from a possible maximum of 18 and have rarely faced the problem that rivals Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have in contrast.

It was thanks in large part to Karim Benzema's superb form where it is the Frenchman who has scored eight goals and provided seven assists so far this season. In the match against Mallorca last night, Benzema scored twice in Los Blancos' 6-1 win.

“The fact that he scores so many goals sometimes makes you forget the job he does for the team and the assists he provides. He is very complete," said Real manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Madrid have so far scored 21 league goals or 10 more than any other team. The Italian coach praised his second-tier players who were effective when needed when the first team was hit by injuries.

"We have a good mix of young and experienced players in this squad. I'm happy that the players who haven't featured much are ready to play. This is a very good sign for the squad," said Ancelotti as quoted by Reuters.

Given that six players who usually enter the first team are absent due to injury, these second-tier players will be called up again during the visit to Unai Emery's Villarreal.

Villarreal are so far unbeaten and just secured their first win of the season Wednesday as they thrashed Elche 4-1.
