Even Though It Is Prohibited, DKI Satpol PP Has Not Imposed A Fine For Shops That Display Cigarette Advertisements

JAKARTA - Currently, the ranks of the Satpol PP in Jakarta are intensively inspecting shops and minimarkets that still display cigarette advertisements in their places of business. This was done after the issuance of the call from the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan.

Head of DKI Satpol PP Arifin said that his party was still taking action in the form of removing cigarette advertisements and closing cigarette windows in shops and minimarkets.

If there are still those who violate these rules, the Satpol PP will still give a warning. Currently, the imposition of fines for shops that still display cigarette advertisements has not been carried out.

"The current sanctions are warnings or warnings. The fines haven't led to that. There is no transportation (cigarettes) either. We don't justify such confiscation," Arifin told reporters, Thursday, September 23.

However, Arifin asked the place manager to obey the rules without having to be visited by the Satpol PP ranks.

"We ask the manager of the place to cover up or lower the cigarette advertisement. If he doesn't, then we give a warning. If the warning is not heeded, then the action to lower it is at the Satpol PP. So, we encourage the manager to do it themselves," said Arifin .

Arifin asked all parties to understand the rules prohibiting the showing of cigarette advertisements, both indoors and outdoors which can be seen by the whole community and children. However, he said there are still certain locations that are allowed to show cigarette advertisements.

"Cigarette advertisements are allowed in entertainment venues, where those who come are adults, not children or school age. It is allowed in certain entertainment places," explained Arifin.

For information, the enforcement of the ban on cigarette advertising is an implementation of the Governor's Appeal number 8 of 2021 concerning the Development of Smoking Areas. This call was signed by Anies on June 9, 2021. However, the Satpol PP action against cigarette advertisements has only been carried out this month.

"Building managers should not place billboards for cigarettes or addictive substances both indoors and outdoors, including displaying cigarette packages or packs or addictive substances at points of sale," Anies wrote in the Sergub.

Anies also asked the building managers to put up a no smoking sign at every entrance and a location that is easily known by everyone in the building area and ensure that no one smokes in the no-smoking area.

"Not providing ashtrays and other cigarette butts disposal areas in no-smoking areas," Anies added.
