West Pademangan Residents Complain, PT Aetra's 5000 Liter Water Aid Is Not Enough

JAKARTA - A number of residents of West Pademangan Urban Village admitted that the assistance of 5000 liters of clean water from PT Aetra Jakarta was not enough to meet their daily needs.

Assistance from PT Aetra followed the leak of the company's water pipe on Jalan RE Martadinata Rumah Pompa, East Ancol.

"This afternoon, there was assistance, but it was not enough for daily clean water," said one resident, Puji answering reporters' questions in North Jakarta, Antara, Wednesday, September 22.

Puji admitted that since the repair of the leaking pipe, he and several other residents were forced to increase their expenses to buy clean water.

"Suddenly there was a disturbance like this, so I had to buy a bucket of water filled with six jerry cans, paying Rp. 4,000 per day. For drinking, I usually buy refilled water. The refill is Rp. 5,000 per gallon," said Puji.

This morning, Puji admitted that he had bought two water carts that he pushed himself to meet the needs of his family today. Another resident of RT 08, Uyung (30) also admitted that since the pipe disruption, the family's clean water needs have been disrupted.

"I was also forced to buy clean water, per jerry can for clean water needs. The assistance earlier was not enough for the residents," said Uyung. Both also admitted that the assistance was deemed insufficient because it was distributed to all residents in RW12.

Information gathered from the head of the local RT stated that there were at least 800 families in RT08, RT14 and RT15 who urgently needed clean water supplies.

On the other hand, Puji admitted, the average tariff for subscribing to clean water from PT Aetra is around Rp. 100,000 per month.

He said that the tariff was sufficient to meet his family's daily water needs, starting from cooking, bathing and washing.

While subscribing to water at the private drinking water management company, Puji has never experienced service disruptions such as dead, cloudy water and others.

"This is only happening now," said Puji.

Based on information, the disruption of clean water supply services from PT Aetra DKI Jakarta is the impact of repair work on leaky pipes on Jalan RE Martadinata East Ancol Pump House which will last until September 25, 2021. The affected areas include Ancol Village, West Pademangan and East Pademangan.
