Tanjung Gusta Convict Persecution Case, Ombudsman Calls Medan Past
MEDAN - The Ombudsman Representative for North Sumatra has scheduled a summons to the Head of the Class 1 Penitentiary (Kalapas) Tanjung Gusta Medan regarding allegations of mistreatment of prisoners or correctional inmates (WBP).
The Head of the Ombudsman Examination of the North Sumatra Representative James Marihot Panggabean said the summons was scheduled for Friday, September 24.
"We invited the Medan Class I Kalapas and the Medan I Prison Security Head on Friday at 10:00 WIB," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, September 22.
He explained that the summons was made to investigate allegations of mistreatment of WBP which went viral on social media some time ago.
"The summons is related to the alleged mistreatment of WBP," he said.
Previously, a viral video showing an inmate was suspected of being abused and extorted at the Class IA Tanjung Gusta Penitentiary, Medan, was viral on social media (social media).
The video shows an inmate saying his colleague was beaten for not giving money to the officer while showing his colleague's bruised back due to alleged abuse.
The prison itself has examined as many as 10 witnesses to uncover cases of alleged abuse and extortion.
