Police Are Still Waiting For Labfor Results Regarding The Cause Of The Tangerang Prison Fire Other Than An Electric Short Circuit
JAKARTA - The police are still waiting for the results of the forensic laboratory examination (Labfor) regarding the possibility of other causes behind the Tangerang Class I prison fire. Until now, the cause of the fire was concluded due to a suspected electrical short circuit.
"We are still waiting, but it's a temporary statement that it was an electrical short. We are still waiting for it from Labfor later," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus to reporters, Wednesday, September 22.
Labfor inspection will determine the true cause of the fire. While waiting for the results of the examination, the team of investigators examined witnesses and experts.
"That's why we are still collecting the available evidence, including the testimony of expert witnesses from the Forensic Laboratory to find out what caused the fire," said Yusri.
"But the initial information was that it was in one of the rooms that the fire started due to an electrical short," continued Yusri.
In a series of examinations, today investigators scheduled six witnesses. Where, five of them are inmates.
"So we have summoned 6 people for examination, one additional examination. Then there are 5 more witnesses that we summoned for examination today," said Yusri.
The Tangerang Class I prison caught fire on Wednesday, September 8, in the early hours of the morning. As a result, nearly 50 people died as a result of the incident.
Dozens of inmates could not save themselves. Because when the fire broke out, the prison cell was locked. Meanwhile, officers did not have time to open the cells of the victims.
