Police Shoot Robbery Perpetrators In Belawan Medan

MEDAN - The Belawan Harbor Police Criminal Investigation Unit personnel shot one of the four street robbers who often operate in the Belawan area of Medan City, North Sumatra.

"The robber who was given firm and measurable action was MT (24) a resident of Jalan Kenanga Kampung Kurnia, Belawan Bahari Village, Medan Belawan District," said Belawan Harbor Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Faisal Rahmad, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, September 21.

The perpetrator was shot for running away and resisting officers when he was about to be arrested. "Afraid of the target running away, the personnel were forced to shoot the perpetrator's leg," he said.

The police chief said that the three other suspects were MB (19), AS (20) and IH (21).

The four perpetrators were arrested based on the victim's report with LP: 90/IX//2021/SU/Pel-Belawan/Sekta Belawan on 20 September 2021.

"The perpetrators were arrested in their respective homes in the Belawan area," he said.

Faisal explained, the robbery occurred when the victim was driving a rickshaw while trying to take fish in Belawan. The victim crossed on Jalan Yos Sudarso Belawan.

The four perpetrators carrying sharp weapons (sajams) tried to confront the victim. The victim tried to run, but his rickshaw tires fell into the ditch. The four perpetrators then took the victim's money.

The officers also confiscated evidence from the four perpetrators in the form of five sharp weapons of various types, a hammer, and Rp350,000 in cash, allegedly the proceeds of crime.

"The perpetrator of the robbery violated Article 365 of the Criminal Code with a penalty of 12 years in prison," he said.
