2 Years In London, Time For John Lennon's Statue To Return To Liverpool

JAKARTA - Marking the 80th anniversary of John Lennon - if he is still alive - this October, the Beatles icon statue will be toured in Liverpool.

Laura Lian, who created the six-foot-tall bronze statue of Lennon, said she wanted the statue to be displayed in Lennon's hometown on September 21 during International Day of Peace.

This statue has been on display at London's Hard Rock Cafe since Lian finished his work two years ago.

But he is now asking for the statue to tour the entire region on Merseyside over the next two years.

"With all the problems in the world about sculptures ... pandemics and strife, it is very fitting that Lennon can return to where he belongs. For my generation who grew up amid protests against the Vietnam war and the threat of nuclear war, Lennon was an inspiration in the way it inspired us to dream. peace, "Laura told The Guardian.

“I always intended the statue to have a permanent home on Merseyside and at one stage it appeared that the Lennon statue would be erected in Liverpool's Strawberry Fields area. The project failed, but when the mayor of metropolitan Merseyside, Steve Rotheram, suggested that the project go up in the Sefton area, I thought it was a good idea. Every year a region on Merseyside is nominated for a cultural territory and this year it's Sefton's turn. "

He added that the statue deservedly returned to Liverpool ahead of the 40th anniversary of Lennon's death in December.
