Makassar Mayor Danny Pomanto Stops Operation Of The COVID-19 Isolation Ship KM Umsini

MAKASSAR - The Makassar City Government, South Sulawesi stopped the operation of the Umsini Motorboat (KM) as an integrated floating isolation place for COVID-19 patients after the status and level of transmission in the area continued to decline.

Makassar Mayor Moh Ramdhan Pomanto (Danny Pomanto) said that the operation of the Umsini floating isolation ship was stopped because the transmission rate was getting lower.

"So thank God we ended it because the BOR (Bed occupancy rate) was already very low, one city was only eight percent. On this ship the BOR is 2.5 percent," he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, September 20.

The discontinuation of operations was marked by the lowering of the yellow flag and the awarding of plaques to related parties, such as the Makassar Police Chief, Kodam XIV/Hasanuddin, Pelni, Pelindo 4 Makassar.

Then the placards were given to Kajari, the port police, the captain of the Pelni ship, the Ministry of Transportation, health workers and doctors who were dedicated for two whole months.

For further handling, his party will evaluate it monthly and will anticipate if there is a sudden spike.

One of the other steps is to intensify vaccinations in Makassar City in every village that is included in the "Sapu Jagad" system program with 100 vaccines 1 RT/day 100 percent.

"The integrated isolation program was successful. Why did it work, because it succeeded in suppressing BOR. That became a reference," said Danny Pomanto.

Danny Pomanto explained that the number of COVID-19 patients in integrated isolation for two months of operation was 275 people.

"Alhamdulillah, all recovered. Finally there were eight patients but today all have gone home and recovered," continued Danny Pomanto.

One of the patients using KM Umsini, Putri, expressed her gratitude for the integrated floating isolation for helping people who were exposed to COVID-19.

"Thank you very much, Mr. Wali. Me and my friends who have been isolated on this ship are very happy. The facilities are amazing. The vitamins, the food, so I only recovered for six days," he said.
