BBKSDA Papua Reminds To Use Imitation Cenderawasih Crown At XX PON
JAKARTA - The Papua Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA) has again reminded to use the imitation Cenderawasih crown in the XX National Sports Week (PON) in its territory.
Head of the Papua BBKSDA, Edward Sembiring in Jayapura, Monday, said this was to provide protection for the small yellow paradise (Paradisaea minor) and the large yellow cenderawasih (Paradisaea apoda) which are inherent in the customary order of most tribes in Papua.
"The protective measure is the use of an imitation Cenderawasih crown as a substitute for the real one," he said.
According to Edward, his party has also asked for the support of the Deputy Chairman of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dedi Mulyadi, in protecting the birds of paradise.
"The XX PON event which will be held in Papua in 2021 can pose a serious threat to the use of the original Cenderawasih crown," he said.
He explained that one of the right steps to prevent illegal acts of Cenderawasih is to produce imitation Cenderawasih crowns.
"This has been initiated by the Kena Nembey Conservation Assisted Village Group in Tablasupa Village, Depapre District, Jayapura Regency," he said again.
He added that his party hopes that the production of this imitation Cenderawasih crown can be an economic potential for the local community.
"We need the support of various parties in protecting the Cenderawasih by using imitation crowns, not the real ones," he said again.
Lodiwik, whose surname is Serontouw, was one of the pioneers in protecting Cenderawasih in Tablasupa Village. If traced from history, it does not intersect directly with these protected wildlife. Efforts to protect this bird of paradise indicate that the protection of state-owned wildlife, especially Cenderawasih, can be carried out by all parties without exception. Previously, the Head of the Papua BBKSDA, Edward Sembiring, attended the Public Hearing Meeting (RDPU) of the Commission IV Working Committee of the DPR RI together with the Heads of Balai Conservation of Natural Resources and National Parks on Thursday, September 16 in Jakarta.
During the meeting, Edward asked for the support of the Deputy Chairman of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dedi Mulyadi, in protecting the birds of paradise by using imitations.
