Police Name 3 LP Employees Suspects In Tangerang Prison Tragedy Fire That Killed Dozens Of Prisoners
JAKARTA - The police have finally named three suspects behind the deadly fire at the Class I prison in Tangerang. The suspects are prison employees.
"We have named three suspects," said the Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus to reporters, Monday, September 20.
The three suspects had the initials RU, S, and Y. The determination of these suspects was based on the results of a case title with dozens of witnesses and evidence.
"There are 53 witnesses that we have examined. Including the reported witnesses, then some evidence was collected. Information on the equipment. All the evidence has been collected," continued Yusri.
In that case, they were proven to have violated Article 359 of the Criminal Code regarding negligence causing death.
Meanwhile, the Director of General Criminal Investigation at the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Tubagus Ade Hidayat, said that for Articles 187 and 188 of the Criminal Code, no suspects have been named. Because there is still a lack of evidence
"Meanwhile, articles 187 and/or 188 of the Criminal Code are still needed. So that the suspects announced today are suspects who meet the elements of Article 359 of the Criminal Code based on evidence," continued Tubagus.
The Tangerang Class I prison caught fire on Wednesday, September 8, in the early hours of the morning. As a result, 44 inmates died due to the incident.
Dozens of prisoners were not able to save themselves. Because when the fire broke out, the prison cell was locked. Meanwhile, the officers did not have time to open the cells of the victims.
