Detained To A 1-1 Draw With Milan, Juventus Fell To The Brink Of Relegation

JAKARTA - AC Milan forced Juventus to continue their winning streak at the start of the Italian League season after picking up a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Stadium for the fourth week of action, Sunday local time.

Launching Antara, the result makes Juventus now mired in the relegation zone of the standings and ranks 18th with a collection of only two points, while Milan, who has 10 points, has not moved from second position.

Massimiliano Allegri's side had hopes of a first win of the season when they opened the scoring after just four minutes through Alvaro Morata's goal.

Morata escaped the offside trap to receive a through ball from Paulo Dybala, leaving Theo Hernandez and beating goalkeeper Mike Maignan with a precise flick into the box.

Juve then had two fine chances to add to their lead but Maignan responded with two brilliant saves that saved Morata's shot and Dybala's strike.

Milan looked difficult to penetrate the Juve defense throughout the first half where their best chance came two minutes before the break through Ante Rebic's shot which was blocked by Giorgio Chiellini and Sandro Tonali's throw-up ball ended just grazing the post.

Juve came close to doubling them in the 74th minute when Federico Chiesa tried to finish off Danilo's cross but once again Maignan was quick to find the net.

Two minutes later, Milan managed to equalize when Rebic headed in a dangerous cross from Tonali to outwit goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Both teams continued to play openly and Milan would have almost completely turned things around three minutes into normal time, had Pierre Kalulu's narrow angle shot not been saved by Szczesny.

Then in the second minute of injury time, Manuel Locatelli made a crucial contribution in Juve's defense to block Alessandro Florenzi's shot and forced the 1-1 draw to last until dispersal.

Both teams play again on Wednesday as Milan seek to return to winning ways at home to Venezia at the San Siro and Juve hunt for their first three points away to Alberto Picco against Spezia.
