Sleman Regent Shares Sad Story Of Saliyah's Grandmother, Lives In A Hut, Lives From Rp4000 Of Ketupat Weaving
SLEMAN - The Regent of Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Kustini Sri Purnomo, visited the residence of Saliyah's grandmother (77) who lives in an uninhabitable house in Guyangan Kajor, Nogotirto Village, Sunday, September 19.
Kustini's visit to Ms. Suliyah's house in Kapanewon (District) Gamping started from a number of complaints on social media and had gone viral telling that the 77-year-old woman lived in conditions that were far from proper and needed help.
"Based on the information I received last Saturday, September 18, today I immediately responded by visiting Mbah Saliyah's residence to confirm her condition. And it turned out that the report was true," Kustini said as quoted by Antara, Monday, September 20.
From his brief chat with Kustini, Mbah Saliyah said that she lived with her sister with the status of a citizen of Sleman (her husband died).
The Regent said that at her age, Mbah Saliyah is still making a living by making woven diamonds and earning Rp. 4,000 per day.
Mbah Suliyah lives in a hut which is less than two square meters in size. And there was no toilet in it, and sometimes he had to go to the river across from him to wash.
"Mbah Saliyah is here alone, but she has a younger sister. Mbah Saliyah was left by her husband (died) a long time ago. Knowing Mbah Saliyah's condition, we from the Sleman Regency Government helped her," he said.
After talking for 20 minutes, Kustini then said that the Sleman Regency Government would immediately fix the house where Mbah Saliyah was located. In addition to rehabilitation assistance, Kustini through the social service also provides assistance with household equipment and personal needs.
"We will also include Mbah Saliyah in the neglected elderly assistance program (ASLUT). Every month she will receive Rp. 150,000. Hopefully all this assistance can ease her old age," he said.
For Kustini, Mbah Saliyah and other elderly people, the Sleman Regency Government and the surrounding community should pay attention to examples.
For this reason, the number one person in the Sleman Regency Government asked the community not to hesitate to report the condition of people who really need help.
"With this social media, we (the government) find it very helpful. God willing, we will respond to all problems or reports immediately with a review," he said.
After receiving the help, Mbah Saliyah in a stuttering voice conveyed her gratitude. He hopes that Kustini Sri Purnomo will continue to come to the community to see the existing social dynamics.
"I'm grateful, you want to pay attention to me. Keep your spirits up, ma'am, go downstairs. God willing, you will be blessed and you will always be given smoothness," said Saliyah.
