Muhammad Blasphemy Suspect Is Persecuted In Police Detention Center, LPSK Asks Victims To Apply For Protection
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) Maneger Nasution regretted the incident of abuse at the National Police Criminal Investigation Department's Detention Center (Rutan). The victim and perpetrator in this case are fellow residents of the prison.
"Even though they are prisoners, they still have to get security guarantees, both from the authorities and threats from other inmates of the detention center," he said in a written statement received in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, September 19.
Regarding the incident, Maneger Nasution questioned the security conditions of the prison. Guards should be able to anticipate friction that may occur between fellow prisoners.
As previously reported, the suspect in the alleged blasphemy case, Muhammad Kece alias Muhamad Kosman, was persecuted at the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police. The alleged perpetrator is a fellow prisoner, namely Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte.
For this incident, Nasution suggested that if the victim felt that his safety was threatened, then the person concerned could apply for protection to the LPSK.
"We are open to accepting requests for protection for victims, including witnesses who know the alleged abuse case," he said.
Moreover, it was reported that the persecution case had been reported to investigators and the report should have been processed according to the law.
Finally, LPSK also highlighted the rights of victims, including getting protection, medical assistance, psychological rehabilitation, and even filing for restitution for the actions they received from the alleged perpetrator.
However, all of these rights can be accessed by the victim after the person concerned submits an application to the LPSK and the application is decided to be accepted.
"We urge victims to apply for protection, if their safety is indeed threatened," he said.
