COVAX Facility Sends Pfizer Vaccine To Indonesia, Donation From The United States

JAKARTA - A total of 1,140,750 doses of vaccine arrived in Indonesia. This Pfizer vaccine is a donation from the United States government through the COVAX Facility.

Minister of Communication and Information (Kominfo) Johnny G Plate explained that the delivery of the third phase of the US government is part of 4,644,900 additional doses through the dose-sharing mechanism.

"If we add up the Moderna vaccine, 8,000,160 vaccines have arrived in Indonesia, the US Government's dose-sharing support will total 12,645,060 doses," Johnny said in a statement in Jakarta, Sunday.

Previously, Indonesia had also received dose-sharing support for Pfizer vaccine from the US Government as many as 2,632,500 doses, each of which was delivered in two stages, namely 877,500 on September 16 and 1,755,000 doses on September 17. It is planned that the fourth phase of 871,650 will arrive on September 23, bringing the total vaccines that have arrived in Indonesia to 257,350,400.

According to the Minister of Communication and Information, international cooperation, both bilateral and multilateral, plays a major role in efforts to deal with COVID-19. Indonesia is also actively involved in efforts to equalize access to vaccines in the world.

"Cooperation between countries is very much needed in an effort to prevent the emergence, development and spread of new variants," he said.

Johnny emphasized that from the beginning the government had built and established diplomacy with many countries, one of which was in the form of vaccine assistance for the benefit of the national vaccination program. He believes that the safe availability of vaccine stocks will facilitate efforts to accelerate and expand the vaccination program.

Meanwhile, the government also needs community support to make the national vaccination program a success. Therefore, the government invites all people to be vaccinated immediately, with the existing vaccines, there is no need to be picky about vaccines, because all vaccines are safe and efficacious.

"The government also continues to remind the public to remain disciplined in implementing health protocols. Moreover, considering the possibility of the entry of new variants of the COVID-19 virus," said Jhonny.
