Jeff Bezos Sends Rare Message To Elon Musk Via Twitter, First Since February 2020

JAKARTA – There is something new in the rivalry between the two richest billionaires on Earth, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk. The two men are known to the public for having been bickering on social media platforms for most of the year. But recently, Bezos wants to make a change.

Sincerely and openly, Jeff Bezos congratulated Elon Musk on Twitter. Musk, whose space exploration company SpaceX successfully launched a historic civil flight into civil space this week, received rival Bezos' gentle congratulations on Twitter Thursday afternoon, September 16.

"Congratulations to @ElonMusk and the @SpaceX team on the successful launch of Inspiration4 last night," Bezos wrote. “Another step towards a future where space is accessible to all of us.”

It's a rare show for the Amazon founder, who hasn't Tweeted on the social media platform since February 2020. His last tweet was when he sat down with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss sustainability and climate change.

Bezos' tweet to Musk received over 127K likes and was retweeted 7575 at the time of this writing. There has also been an explosive response from Musk himself.

"Thank you," replied the Tesla CEO calmly via his Twitter account.

Exchange

politeness in the twitter account between the two men was not at all unusual.

The two Billionaires have been competing fiercely on social media platforms throughout the years. Musk recently lashed out at Amazon's founders for the many lawsuits and petitions filed against SpaceX, including NASA's original contract to grant SpaceX the only contract to carry humans on lunar exploration.

Bezos didn't stop there. He also filed a separate complaint with the FCC regarding SpaceX's permission to develop the second-generation Starlink satellite system.

Musk doesn't just respond to every lawsuit from his rivals as they hang around Twitter. He even intentionally misspelled Bezos' name, which was seen as a mockery.

"Apparently Besos retired to pursue a full-time job filing a lawsuit against SpaceX," the Tweet reads.

When Bezos himself flew into space on a New Shepard Blue Origin rocket in July, Musk sent a congratulatory message via social media platforms to which Bezos did not respond.

"Good luck tomorrow," Musk wrote in response to a pre-launch Blue Origin tweet.

This week, NASA announced that it awarded five companies contracts to develop designs for the moon landing, for a total of $146 million. Both SpaceX and Blue Origin are among the five companies.
