Elections Are Still A Long Time Away, Gerindra Is Uncomfortable Being Asked About Anies-Sandi's Candidacy In The 2024 Presidential Election
JAKARTA - Deputy General Chairperson of Gerindra, Habiburokhman, refuses to respond to the possible pair of candidates Anies Baswedan - Sandiaga Uno in the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres).
According to him, the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) is still far away, so there is no need to talk about it at this time. Moreover, he said, Anies Baswedan was still carrying out his duties as the Governor of DKI Jakarta. Meanwhile, Sandiaga Uno is still working as the minister of tourism and the creative economy.
"We are uncomfortable talking about elections, presidential elections. The 2024 election is still a long way off, the two people are also carrying out their mandate as public officials," said Habiburokhman, Friday, September 17.
The Deputy Chairperson of the DPR MKD considered that it was better for all parties to let Anies and Sandi concentrate on carrying out their duties during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Let's not bother with speculations about the vice presidential candidate," said Habiburokhman.
Previously, the President of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) Ahmad Syaikhu mentioned the Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno pair as a necessity in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. However, he did not specify the meaning of his statement.
"The Anies-Sandi duet is a necessity," in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Thursday, September 16. Syaikhu claimed that the statement did not mean that PKS would carry Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno as in the 2017 DKI Jakarta Pilkada. So far, PKS is still looking for the right person to carry in the 2024 presidential election. "But I still see that it is still dynamic. So we continue to build communication, hopefully in the future we can get it," he said. Syaikhu also said that PKS still needed coalition partners if want to carry presidential and vice presidential candidates. The current PKS parliamentary vote is only 8.2 percent.
