To Avoid Misconceptions, Bali Governor Wayan Koster Urged For Viral Clarification Of Female MCs Banned From Performing
DENPASAR - The Bali Legal Aid Institute (LBH) has responded to the viral Master Of Ceremony (MC) of a woman, Putu Dessy Fridayanthi, who was allegedly discriminated against because she was not allowed to appear at the Bali Governor I Wayan Koster's event.
The Director of LBH Bali, Vany Primaliraning, explained that the incident must be seen in its entirety regarding the reasons for the ban on MCs appearing. Is the reason related to the protocol since COVID-19 or is it purely discrimination.
"If it's forbidden as a woman, of course we can't. Because basically we are in a position to fight for gender equality, we can't look at gender. Whatever the gender of the MC, if the protocol allows him to be there, yes, he really has to go there, it can't be differentiated. he has to be behind," Vany told reporters on Thursday, September 16.
Vany said that gender discrimination is a form of human rights violation category which of course falls into the category of discrimination. This, too, should not be done by public officials.
"This should be a public record for the governor to make prohibitions based on discrimination. This should be responded to by the Ombudsman as a public servant, how then are there rules like this which then apply to public consumption," he said.
According to LBH, there should be no protocol that distinguishes between men and women. Because, it is very serious and can be a practice of human rights violations.
"Seeed seriously as a form of practice of violating public services and human rights violations. It must be seen in its entirety and this can be part of a violation of human rights, because it places women as number two, and discredits and stigmatizes women," he said.
LBH Bali also asked to abolish the rules that discriminate against women, especially in the Bali Provincial Government and also become an evaluation material so that there is no discrimination.
"Yes, it must be seen that any rules at the provincial government level are complete. This, indeed, is deleted and there must be an evaluation in the circle of the Bali Provincial Government, to remove all rules or protocols that discriminate against women," he said.
The Provincial Government of Bali and the Governor of Bali were asked to immediately clarify so as not to cause misinformation in the community.
"Things like this must be clarified. For what reason, so as not to cause wrong information in the community. At the provincial government level there are those who have public relations, have the Communication Information Service. So, if not providing clarification is strange, how then will the organs there it works. What was done until things like this did not get clarification, "he said.
"The Ombudsman has the authority if there is a violation, yes. the mistake," said Vany.
The Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, has not provided any clarification regarding the incident of discrimination against a female Master Of Ceremony (MC) named Putu Dessy Fridayanthi, who is prohibited from appearing at the Bali Governor's event.
Meanwhile, Dessy asked for clarification from Wayan Koster on the discrimination he was prohibited from appearing in front of the governor of Bali.
"If asked what my hopes are now for the Bali Provincial Government, I would like a response or clarification on the unpleasant treatment I experienced. What is the reason that I was treated like a prisoner of war?" Dessy said in a written statement, Thursday, September 16.
He hopes that women who work in professional fields such as being MCs can be allowed to be MCs at the Bali governor's event.
"And of course my hope, representing my friends, women workers who are professionals in their fields, is that, after this incident, we women event workers in particular, are allowed to host events attended by the Governor of Bali," he said.
"Don't be told to hide, position yourself properly as the MC who brings the event on or beside the stage. And it's no longer suddenly canceled because the event to be hosted will be attended by the Governor of Bali, then the MC must be a man. Stop, discrimination against us people women in Bali. We have the right to work and work according to our respective professions. Please immediately respond to the Bali Provincial Government or the Governor directly, "said Dessy.
Deputy Governor of Bali Cok Ace's ResponseDeputy Governor of Bali Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati (Cok Ace) responded to the viral response of a female MC who was prohibited from appearing on stage if there was an event attended by the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster.
"I don't follow that," said Deputy Governor Cok Ace when met at the Bali DPRD building, Monday, September 13
When asked about whether or not a female MC should not appear, Cok Ace talked about protocol.
"If it's (such a protocol) it's normal and there's no problem," he said.
