DENPASAR - The video of the Regent of Badung, Bali, I Nyoman Giri Prasta has been in the spotlight by netizens, for keeping gibbon gibbons, a protected animal.
The video was uploaded by his Instagram account @giri.prasta and went viral on social media, Wednesday, September 15. In the description of the upload, Giri Prasta wrote, "Today, Mimi is two months old, let's practice standing and walking,".
In the video with a swimming pool background, the Regent Giri Prasta also introduces the black monkey.
"Hello guys, her name is Mimi, so we take good care of her, we've given her all the medicine and now I'm teaching her to walk. Here she is walking near us, I'll take good care of her, steady... steady, always healthy," said Regent Giri Prasta in the video.
However, soon the video was deleted from his Instagram account after it went viral on social media.
Meanwhile, Head of the Bali Province Conservation and Natural Resources Center (BKSDA), R. Agus Budi Santosa, said that Badung Regent Giri Prasta had handed over a gibbon gibbon or symphalangus syndactylus.
"Located at the Bali KSDA Balai office, today I received the handover of protected animals by law by I Nyoman Giri Prasta," said Santosa, in a written statement, Wednesday, September 15.
He explained that the gibbon gibbon was female with the age of 2 months. This animal is protected by law based on the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number: P.106/Menlhk/Setjen/Kum.1/12/2018 concerning the Second Amendment to the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number P.20/Menlhk/Setjen/Kum .1/6/2018 concerning Protected Types of Plants and Animals.
Furthermore, in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations, one gibbon gibbon will be released into its natural habitat in the province of West Sumatra.
"Rehabilitation is carried out at the Gibbon Rehabilitation Center in Kalaweit, West Sumatra. Prior to translocation of the animal to West Sumatra, a medical examination is carried out to ensure that the animal is in good health," he said.
"This gibbon gibbon is one of the protected animals by law, for that people who own or care for it must submit or report to the Bali KSDA Hall," said Santosa.
