Terrorist Network Raises Funds Through Charity Box, BNPT Reminds People To Be Careful In Giving Donations
JAKARTA - The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) reminded the public to be careful in giving donations through charity boxes. This is because the charity box has become a mode of terrorism networks to raise funds.
This was conveyed by the Head of BNPT Boy Rafli Amar during a hearing with Commission III of the DPR, Wednesday, September 15.
Boy revealed that the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) network group is currently using new names related to the name of the foundation to raise funds through charity boxes.
"They include those who abuse charity boxes, which basically they want to gather from the younger generation to participate in their activities," said Boy.
He asked the public to remain vigilant regarding this matter. BNPT, he continued, is also trying to educate the public so that good intentions for charity are not misused by terrorist networks.
"We need to educate the public, indeed the intention is good to donate, but if it is wrong to donate, it is the same as supporting acts of terrorism," said Boy.
Donations that go to terrorist charity boxes, Boy continued, will later be misused to support their activities. One of them sends young people to Middle Eastern countries.
"Don't let it turn out that behind that they are people who organize as event organizers to gather young people to go to Iraq and Syria," Boy explained.
Boy said BNPT also coordinated with the Ministry of Religion and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights regarding fundraising for terrorists under the guise of charity boxes. According to Boy, the two ministries will monitor and select any foundations that make fictitious donations.
"Especially related to the terrorist movement," he concluded.
