Snapdragon 865 Plus, Speeding Gaming Chipset On ROG Phone 3 And Lenovo Legion

JAKARTA - The smartphone gaming market is on the rise. Seeing the market potential, Qualcom has released a new System-on-Chip (SoC) that focuses on gaming capabilities, namely the Snapdragon 865 Plus 5G.

Senior Vice President and General Manager of Qualcomm Technologies Alex Katouzian, said Snapdragon 865 Plus is designed to provide enhanced performance in all aspects to support faster game play. This chipset also supports smarter 5G and AI connections.

"As our efforts to spread 5G, we continue to invest in the premium series, the 8-series mobile platform, to drive performance and efficiency aspects and bring the next generation of cameras, AI and gaming experiences," he said as quoted by Qualcomm's official statement, Thursday, 9. July.

In terms of specifications, the Snapdragon 865 Plus uses a Qualcomm Kryo TM 585 Prime CPU construction with a core clock speed of up to 3.1 GHz. This chipset is supported by Snapdragon Elite Gaming via GPU Adreno 650, so it provides graphics rendering capabilities 10 percent faster than the regular version.

There is also a FastConnect 6900 suite of wireless connectivity in Snapdragon 865 Plus technology. This means that users will have support for WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.

Asus ROG Phone 3 and Lenovo Legion

It is known that the high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus processor will be embedded in two high-end gaming smartphones this year, namely the Asus ROG Phone 3 and the Lenovo Legion. It is planned that the two PC and laptop gaming sub-brands will release their gaming phones in the third quarter of 2020.

Meanwhile for Lenovo, this will be the first time for its sub-brand to release a line of gaming smartphones. If there are no obstacles, the Lenovo Legion gaming phone will be launched on 22 July.
