This Is The Reason Solskjaer Pulled Ronaldo And Bruno Against Young Boys

JAKARTA - Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed the reason for replacing Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes when his team lost to Young Boys in the Champions League, Tuesday night local time.

Quoted from Sky Sports on Wednesday, Solskjaer, who was criticized for this substitution, said he needed a replacement because the two Portuguese players had run a lot in Saturday's game in the Premier League and before being substituted.

"It's been 70 minutes, they (Ronaldo and Fernandes) have run a lot, both on Saturday and today. Astroturf has taken a toll too and we need experience from Nemanja to hold the ball and Jesse's feet," said Solskjaer.

In this match Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes were replaced by Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard in the 72nd minute when the match was still a 1-1 draw before being overturned by the hosts in stoppage time.

The Norwegian coach said Ronaldo had been outstanding in his last two games but he had to keep the 36-year-old in shape.

Solskjaer assessed that pulling out Ronaldo at that minute was the right choice to maintain the condition of the megastar.

"Ronaldo is incredible. But we have to keep him and it feels like the right time to withdraw him," said Solskjaer.

Manchester United had to admit the advantage of Young Boys with a narrow score of 1-2 even though they had taken the lead through Cristiano Ronaldo in the 13th minute before finally being answered by Moumi Ngamaleu in the 66th minute and Theoson Siebatcheu in the 90+5 minute.

This result makes Manchester United have to settle for sitting in the final ranking of Champions League Group F without points under Young Boys, Atalanta and Villarreal.

Next, Solskjaer and Manchester United are scheduled to play West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday (19/9) at 20:00 WIB.
