Regarding The Permit To Use Cellphones In Tangerang Prison, Commission III Of The House Of Representatives Await Police Investigation
JAKARTA - Komnas HAM found irregularities committed by correctional officers (Lapas) Tangerang, Banten, regarding the use of mobile phones or cellphones by inmates.
It is suspected that an electrical short circuit caused the prison fire due to the use of electrical installations used to charge the inmates' devices.
In response to this, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR Adies Kadir asked the police to investigate the findings.
"Because the rules are that communication tools are not allowed to enter the cubicles of the inmates. So if it is suspected that this is the case, please let the National Human Rights Commission come in to investigate," said Adies at the DPR building, Tuesday, September 14.
Adie considered that the police should not only examine the inmates, but also the officers at the Tangerang prison, why did they give permission to use cell phones in prison.
"So the ASN who are there, the guards who are there, the Kalapas that are there must be responsible for this," said the Golkar politician.
Despite the speculation, Commission III of the DPR is still locking up information from the Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly about the cause of the fire being an electric short circuit.
"Well, if there are other things, we are waiting for the results of the investigation and investigation by the police, in this case the Polda Metro has already done that," explained Adies.
"If Komnas HAM sees any indications (of negligence, ed), please let Komnas HAM look into this. Of course, in a hearing meeting with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, we will ask in detail what is the cause of this happening," he continued.
Adie added that Commission III of the DPR has planned a working meeting agenda with the Menkum HAM on Monday, September 27.
"The plan is Monday, two weeks after this, the 27th. There is an agenda with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights on the 27th. We invite all (including the Director General of PAS, ed). It's for the purpose of supervision," concluded Adies.
Previously, the Commissioner of Komnas HAM, M. Choirul Anam, revealed the facts of the prison in Tangerang, Banten, after the fire that occurred on Wednesday, September 8. One of them is the use of mobile phones for inmates in the prison environment which is suspected to be the cause of the fire.
"Because of the cable above and the important thing is that there is a cellphone playing. So the cellphone (mobile phone, ed) enters the room. So, if you fight over plugs or the installation is improvised, there is potential for electric current. One of them could be because of the HP plugs," said Choirul Anam in an online Crosscheck discussion, Sunday, September 12.
"If it's true that electricity flows, for example, we have to wait for the police investigation, but if it's true, it could be one of the reasons for the improvisation. But we have to wait for the police," he concluded.
