BMKG Warns Jakarta To Enter Flood Alert Level, Here's The Provincial Government Anticipation

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that Jakarta has the potential to be affected by floods from extreme weather in the next few days.

Responding to this, DKI Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said DKI Governor Anies Baswedan had been anticipating this since a few days ago.

Anies, said Riza, has instructed all relevant ranks to prepare for the Jakarta floods.

"We make sure that our human resources and tools will be used to the maximum extent possible. We have learned from year to year about anticipation of preventing flood control, including rehabilitation," said Riza at DKI City Hall, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, September 14.

Riza explained that the ranks of the DKI Provincial Government made various efforts, ranging from dredging or raiding mud on rivers to reservoirs. Dredging is carried out with a doubling of working hours.

In addition, the Department of Water Resources is also building a polder. The 9 polders under construction are Kelapa Gading Polder, Pulomas Polder, Marunda Polder, Tipala Adyaksa Polder, Muara Angke Polder, Teluk Gong Polder, Mangga Dua Polder, Green Garden Polder, and Kamal Polder.

Most importantly, Riza reminded the public to be aware of the coming flood. "The most important thing is that the community must obey, be disciplined, be vigilant, especially people who live on the banks of rivers, around areas in flooded areas," he explained.

Previously, the BMKG mapped 4 provinces that had the potential impact of hydrometeorological disasters in the form of floods, flash floods and/or landslides from extreme weather for the next 3 days.

The potential for extreme weather will occur on September 15, 2021. Among them are Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, and East Java. These four provinces are at the alert level.
