Jerome Rothen: Signing Ramos Was A Bad Idea, There's No Point In Having Him
JAKARTA - Not yet making his debut for Paris Saint-Germain, Sergio Ramos has been criticized.
Due to injury, Ramos is unlikely to play his first game with the French club until, at the earliest, 22 September against Metz.
Former PSG player and current RMC Sport commentator Jerome Rothen is the latest to hurl criticism at the former Real Madrid centre-back.
"Containing a calf muscle injury towards the end of your career is really bad news because it's an injury you rarely fully recover from," said Rothen.
"Once a player improves his rhythm, either during matches or in training with PSG, he may not be able to continue.
"And when a player reaches a certain age, he needs to play a number of games to get back to form.
"Will he be able to return to the top level if he has constant pain in his calf? I have very doubts about that."
Rothen also noted how Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe had a bigger impact in the dressing room, he said.
"When he arrived, everyone said that Sergio Ramos would change the mentality in the dressing room."
"But today, Marquinhos and Kimpembe are way above Ramos in terms of influence.
"His motivational skills are not enough at PSG at the moment. He needs to bring more to the team on the pitch.
"If he's not capable of that, there's no point in having him. That's why I feel that signing Ramos is a bad idea for PSG."
