Javicia Leslie Becomes The First Black Star Acting Batwoman
JAKARTA - The CW has found a new actor who will play Batwoman for the second season of the series. Actor Javicia Leslie is said to be the first black Batwoman.
A positive response was given by Leslie after it was officially announced by The CW. "I am proud to be the first black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television," said Leslie as quoted by Variety.
Leslie also writes on her Instagram account; "For all the women in black who want to become heroes one day ... This is possible!"
Previously, Ruby Rose, who played Batwoman in season one, left production after finishing filming in May. She felt that she did not deserve to play a black character while she was a white woman.
The search was carried out quickly as the production team had to shoot a second season. Javicia Leslie will play a new character named Ryan Wilder.
Ryan Wilder is likable, messy and unbeatable. Wilder lives in a van with his plants. Seemingly simple, Ryan Wilder's character is described as strong and has the ability to fight anyone. He's not the typical American hero you see.
Through his personal Instagram, Ruby Rose praised the choice of Javicia Leslie. “I am happy that Batwoman will be played by a black woman. I want to congratulate Javicia Leslie on taking this role. I can't wait to see season 2 you will look great !! ”
