Police Determine Suspects For The Death Of 2 Men At Bintan Mangrove Tourism Site

BINTAN - The Bintan Police, the Riau Islands Police, named a man with the initials W as a suspect for the deaths of two men, Wahyu and Benni, who fell and were dragged by the current at the tourist location of Ekang Mangrove Park.

Bintan Police Chief AKBP Tidar Wulung Dahono said the determination of suspect W was based on a number of testimonies from witnesses and the case title carried out by the Investigation Team of the Criminal Investigation Unit.

According to him, W, who is the tekong of a large ship carrying a group of the Bintan Regency Tourism and Culture Office, is suspected by investigators of being negligent in operating the ship.

Suspect W is suspected of overtaking the boat that the two victims were traveling in, triggering high waves and hitting the boat until it overturned.

As a result, Wahyu and Benni were swept away by the current, while a tekong boat named Riau managed to survive.

"Due to his negligence, it caused an incident that resulted in fatalities. The actions of suspect W violate Article 359 with a threat of 5 years in prison," said the Bintan Police Chief.

In this case, the police have examined a number of witnesses, from the Head of the Bintan Tourism and Culture Office, the Generation Pesona Indonesia (Genpi) Bintan to the manager of the Ekang Mangrove Park tourist area.

In addition, investigators also confiscated a fiber boat and two safety jackets that were used by the two victims at the time of the incident.

From the results of the initial examination, victims Benni and Wahyu allegedly took off their safety jackets after carrying out shooting activities in the mangrove forest tourism area.

"Initially, I wore a safety jacket, but after it was finished, it was removed," said the Police Chief.

The bodies of Wahyu and Benni were found by a joint SAR team not far from the crash site, Sunday, September 5.
