Grandmother Steals 3 Kg Of Shallots At Jongke Market, Laweyan Police Chief Compensation For Traders, No Legal Process
SOLO - The Surakarta City Police have arrested a grandmother with the initials S (60), a Klaten resident who stole shallots at Jongke Laweyan Market, Solo, Central Java.
Laweyan Police Chief AKP Bobby A. Rachman said his party arrested a grandmother for stealing 3 kilograms of red onions.
According to the police chief, the incident began with the victim of a kiosk owner at Jongke Market, namely, Wahyono (50) who caught the perpetrator S while carrying around 3 kilograms of red onions, the result of stealing from his stall.
Victim Wahyono then reported the incident to the Laweyan Police for legal proceedings. However, according to the police chief, from the results of the investigation, perpetrator S admitted that he was desperate to do the act because he was desperate for need, and did not have enough money to buy it.
Seeing the condition of the perpetrators who were in desperate need, the Sector Police then took steps to mediate between the victim and the perpetrator. Thus, both parties reached a mutual agreement to be resolved amicably.
After both parties agreed, the Sector Police then compensated the victim's losses, and gave the shallots to the perpetrators to be used.
"It would be very ironic, just because 3 kg of shallots are used for daily needs, a mother is imprisoned. Therefore, on humanitarian grounds, we will resolve this case with restorative justice, provided that the perpetrator will not repeat it in the future," said the police chief.
