Surabaya Tanjung Perak Prosecutor's Office Receives Payment Of IDR 1 Billion Fine For Jeco Drug Convicts
SURABAYA - The Tanjung Perak District Attorney's Office (Kejari) of Surabaya City received a fine of Rp. 1 billion from a convict in a narcotics case.
The head of the Surabaya Tanjung Perak Attorney General's Office, I Ketut Kasna Dedi, explained that the convict who paid the fine was named Deny Wijaya alias Jeco from Malang, East Java.
"Today, the Surabaya Tanjung Perak Kejari has received a fine of Rp. 1 billion," said Kasna Dedi, quoted by Antara, Friday, September 10.
Deny Wijaya paid a fine of IDR 1 billion for the verdict handed down by the Panel of Judges of the Supreme Court on April 29, 2014.
The verdict was imposed on the narcotics case weighing 1,129 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 4,091 pills of ecstasy.
Kajari Kasna said in the decision of the Panel of Judges of the Supreme Court, chaired by Timur P Manurung, it was stated that in addition to the fine, the convict Deny Wijaya was also sentenced to 18 years in prison.
In the decision at the first instance court, namely the Surabaya District Court, Deny Wijaya was sentenced to 12 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to two months in prison.
The convict Deny had filed an appeal, but at the appeal level, the decision of the Panel of Judges of the High Court actually strengthened the decision of the District Court.
In fact, at the level of cassation, the sentence was even increased and became 18 years in prison.
Meanwhile, the fine payment of IDR 1 billion was then deposited to Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) which would later be directly deposited into the state treasury.
"Today, we will immediately deposit it to BRI for further submission to the state treasury," said Kajari Kasna.
