Dog Meat For Sale At Senen Market, Deputy Governor Of DKI: Strict Action Will Be Taken
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Animal Defenders Community discovered that there was a sale of dog meat at Pasar Senen, Central Jakarta. The market is managed by Perumda Pasar Jaya.
Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria admitted that he had not received any information regarding the findings of the dog meat sale.
"I haven't received any information from Pasar Jaya regarding the report," said Riza at DKI City Hall, Central Jakarta, Friday, September 10.
However, Riza said that his party will take firm action if there are traders who are proven to be selling dog meat. This is because this violates the laws and regulations regarding food and consumer protection.
"If this is true, strict action will be taken and sanctions will be imposed according to the provisions. Later, let Pasar Jaya manage and later there will be officers who will investigate the case," said Riza.
Previously, Animal Defenders Indonesia (ADI) conducted an investigation at Pasar Senen. As a result, they found that there was a long-standing dog meat trade.
"One stall that we investigated, admitted that they sell at least 4 dogs a day. They have been operating for more than 6 years," wrote animaldefendersindo's Instagram.
ADI calculates that if 4 dogs are sold for 6 years, it is estimated that currently 8,760 dogs have been slaughtered and sold.
"That's just 1 stall, in that market there are 3 stalls. So just 1 market, in 6 years, consumes 26,280 dogs. And there are many other selling points in DKI," he wrote.
